Hello, Kindergarten Griffins!
We hope everyone stayed warm and cozy during the ice day! We have important information regarding Field Trip, Friendship Day and the 100th Day on the blog this week, so as always, please be sure to read through thoroughly. Thank you!
Note: Since there was no school on Monday, everyone will receive full credit for the homework. We are not going to reprint the agenda so please disregard Monday's section. We will not teach the phonogram "oa (boat)" this week and will move the spelling words to later in the week. Thanks!
This Week:
Sea World Field Trip
When: Wednesday, January 28th
Arrival: Students must arrive to school by 7:50 AM
Lunch: School hot lunch orders have been finalized and are now closed. If you did not order a school hot lunch, your child will need to bring a bag lunch to school on Wednesday. We will be sending home labeled brown paper bags in your child's red folder on Tuesday. Please pack your child’s lunch (nothing that requires refrigeration and no plastic containers that will need to be returned home) into this bag. Please do not pack a drink or snack – bottled water and snacks will be provided!
Dress Code: Scholars will wear their regular school uniforms; field day shirts or other spirit shirts are not allowed. We will be outside all day and walking quite a bit at Sea World, outer wear is encouraged if it is chilly and must be labeled. Any outer wear will be your child's responsibility. They will wear their usual school shoes.
Payment and Permission Slip: Please click here to complete your payment and permission slip all in one step for your kindergartener if you have not already done so. We must have this permission slip on file for your student to attend the field trip. Please ensure this is completed as soon as possible to avoid any last-minute problems delaying our departure. Thank you! We will receive a list from the front office of students that have slips on file, so there is no need to let us know separately.
Reading Bags/Check-Ins:
Reading logs still need to be signed and completed each night for homework. Please make sure that your child brings their reading bags back to school each day in their backpack. We have started reading with your child one-on-one, and our goal is twice a week per student, however, it varies by week when your child reads with their teacher and how often. Your child will receive a new list or book, as the teacher assess for fluency and comprehension when reading with each scholar.

100th Day of School
Next week, on Thursday, February 5th, we will celebrate our 100th day of learning and fun in kindergarten! There will be a poster that will count toward a math grade for your child to complete at home and bring in on Thursday, February 5th. The instructions for the poster are attached in the weekly email and will be going home today in your scholar's red folder.
Friendship Day
We are very excited this year to carrying on the Great Hearts tradition of celebrating “Friendship Day” on Friday, February 6th. At Great Hearts, we make it a habit to celebrate the curriculum instead of holidays and most often do it through literature celebrations. On this special day, in our classrooms, we will be celebrating the virtue of friendship which states that we regard others and ourselves as deserving of kind and just treatment, portraying considerate and polite conduct, looking for the good in others, demonstrating compassion, and knowing that our attitudes toward others and their property reflect the way we wish to be treated. We want to encourage our students to be the best for others.
Friendship Day Cards
We would also like to invite our scholars to create small friendship cards for their classmates. This is an optional activity. Should you choose to participate, please observe the following guidelines:
- Scholars should make one card for each person in the class.
- Cards should be homemade (not store bought).
- Cards should focus on the virtue of friendship and NOT Valentine’s Day. (i.e. “You are a great friend” or “Thank you for being my friend.”)
- NO candy!
- Please send completed cards to school in a Ziploc bag on Wednesday, February 4th.
- Cards may be addressed “To my friend."
Family Game Night
When: Friday, February 6th (4-6pm)
Family Game Night is a good, ole fashion rivalry for the whole family which ties into celebrating the virtue friendship! It is an evening of leisurely fun for our community and for us to build trust and bond with families. We get the opportunity to open our classrooms and invite families of our students to visit and play games. Your students rarely get to see you step back from the position of authority and just have fun.
Since Family Game Night is a family event, we will ask families to stay together to enjoy leisure time and though the majority will listen, we are sure that there will be a few detractors. Admin will do what we can to direct the children back to their parents and remind them of the expectations.
Parent Open House
When: February 10-12, 2026
- Only for parents.
- Parents will be able to sign up for one time slot to see part of one lesson and observe their student’s classroom, during any of these days. More information on the sign-up and sent by GHNO.😊

Homework Reminders
- Be sure to read daily for 20 minutes; 100 minutes this week. Reading Logs will be collected next Monday. Please record on the Reading Log page. If you miss a night, please record 0 minutes and initial rather than leaving it blank.
- Spalding handwriting practice. Spalding homework will continue to be in the Written Phonogram and Spelling Word Review format-please read the GH logo homework sheet for instructions. On Monday-Wednesday scholars write the list of phonograms and words once; on Thursday in preparation for our spelling test the list is written twice.
- Memorize poem by Friday!
- Full credit will be given for Monday due to the bad weather day!
