Q1W4 Kindergarten Weekly Updates (8/31-9/4)

 Hello, Kindergarten Griffins!

It was great getting to see many of you at Curriculum Night last week. We appreciate you taking the time to come and learn more about your scholar’s kindergarten experience!

Please remember to complete homework each night. There are three lines on the Spalding homework: trace the phonogram, connect the dots, and write it on your own 5 times each. Please make sure all three lines are completed. Beginning this week, if a line is missing, your child will receive late or half credit. Please also remember to read each night, record it on the reading log, and sign the agenda! The students are also reciting their poems individually on Fridays, so please practice at home to help build their confidence.

Please remember to send your scholar with a snack, water bottle, and a change of clothes in case of an accident each day.

We have a lot of illness going around, so if your scholar is sick, please send an email to both the teacher and Lauren Clark, our Attendance Clerk. Any missing work will be completed in the classroom or sent home in the red folder upon your scholar’s return. We do not send home absent work with siblings in other grade levels, leave it at the front desk, or prepare it beforehand due to our busy schedule and the number of students we serve. Your child will have the same number of days they were absent to complete any missing work that is sent home. (lauren.clark@greatheartstxschools.org)

Friendly reminder that Spirit Day shirts are only worn on the last Friday of each month. If your child comes to school in a spirit shirt on a day other than the last Friday of the month, they will be asked to change into a uniform shirt. The next spirit shirt day will be August 25th, and they can be purchased on the PSO website then delivered to the classroom and sent home.

This Week

The graded work folder should have come home last week and been returned to school. This week, you will see your child’s first history test on the “Return to School” side located in the back of the red folder. Please sign your name on the red signature stamp (test only). The other papers on the “Left at Home” side may be removed and reviewed at home, so please be sure to take them out.

There will be no homework (reading log) this weekend due to the Labor Day Holiday on Monday, September 7th. Please note that after a holiday, we will always have a full day on Friday! Therefore, Friday, September 11th, will be a full day for students.

Please refer to last week's blog post for video links, check the Great Hearts website for resources, or download the Spalding app.

Momotaro: The Peach Boy
  • Identifying characters and setting
  • Identifying the Virtue of Courage
In Literature, we will read the story of Momotaro, the Peach Boy.  We find the Virtue of Courage in his story and think about ways we can show courage in our daily lives.  We also use this story to learn about the Literary Element of setting-when and where the story takes place. His story is from Japan!
